Kind Words from Family Caregivers
Family Caregivers are as important to us as their loved ones. Choice Dementia Services provides quality dementia care at home to those with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
We understand that caring for a loved one with dementia can be difficult, so our staff is trained to offer compassionate and experienced dementia care to help ease your day.
But why listen to us? Here is what the Family Caregivers have to say.
I Don’t Feel So Overwhelmed Anymore
Thanks to the team at Choice Dementia Services, I don’t feel overwhelmed anymore and can start to enjoy getting out with the guys once again.

You did it all!
Throughout it, all Cyn - you and your team were there. You really did it all Cyn!, Without you and Janine - I am not sure what we would have done. We couldn’t have done it better if we lived in their neighbourhood. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

My mom gained a new friend
Thank you for your services this past year caring for our mom Winnie. She gained new friends, improved her English conversation and by doing so is making her transition to a care home easier.

Much needed respite
I was needing some respite while caring for my husband Peter who has Alzheimer's disease.
Cyn was able to come once a week as requested.
She was always prompt, cheerful and provided social engagement with him in a very caring way. I was very pleased with her services.

My wife’s face lit up
Cyn was the outside care giver 6 hours a week for my wife who has severe Alzheimer’s.
She was excellent with her.
She could make her laugh, got her to talk, and my wife greatly enjoyed her company. When Cyn would come in her face would light up and she would have a great big smile.
We were so fortunate to have her help us until my wife was admitted to a full time care home residence.
I would highly recommend Cyn for any dementia services! Thank you Cyn.

We were facing a nightmare
A huge thank you to Cyn & the team at Choice Dementia Services for their invaluable assistance with my father-in-law.
My wonderful wife and I live in California and her 93 year-old, virtually blind father still resides in Vancouver, BC. We were facing a logistical and health threatening nightmare before Cyn joined our team.
Now, not only is Cyn paving the way for proper care, my father-in-law actually likes her!
So from both my wife’s and my standpoint, as well as (increasingly) my father-in-law’s, anyone in a similar situation would be strongly and well advised to contact and use the professional assistance of Choice Dementia Services.
This is wholesale recommendation of Cyn and a devotion of thanks!

Respectful, warm care for my mother
Thank you to Cyn, Gail and the team at Choice Dementia Services for the care of my mother at the Rosewood Residence in Langley, BC.
My goal was to provide more stimulation and support for her at the residence and Choice Dementia Services was recommended to me.
I found this service to be reliable and cooperative.
I would recommend it to others who are seeking respectful and warm interaction to supplement the public care being delivered in our hospital settings.

Like a visit with a friend
I can't say enough good things about Choice Dementia Services.
They were the only ones who were able to visit Mom in the evening over the dinner hour.
They were great at giving me progress reports.
Their time with Mom was like a visit with a friend and they saw the lovely lady behind the dementia.
My stress level was greatly reduced!

So much more than basic care
I was referred to Cyn and Choice Dementia Services when my 92-year-old father went to Fleetwood Villa Assisted Living in Surrey, BC after his failure to manage any longer by himself at home.
My father has severe vision problems as well as memory loss from Alzheimer’s. I live in California and run a small business here so the stress of being away was challenging.
Since virtually all my father’s friends have either passed on or are elderly themselves, and there is no family member to help other than me, I had a need to find someone be “me” when I was not available to be there in person with him.
Thankfully, Cyn was able to connect with my dad on a special level.
She is both professional and compassionate. She assists him in opening his mail, files, taking him to the bank and reviewing his bills with him.
In addition, she has organized his clothes, has gone shopping for the extra needs he has and has taken him to the doctor. She has also helped to coordinate his medical care so that many needs are being met. And, equally importantly, she coordinates with the caregivers at the Assisted Living Home in Fleetwood.
Cyn has taken a huge load off of me. I have seen my father being taken advantage of in the assisted living home and working with Cyn has set us up for success.
Not knowing the medical system in BC has been frustrating for me and she has been able to help problem solve.
She is professional, reliable and honest. So it is a genuine relief for me to have Cyn working with and care for my father.

Choice was good for the whole family
My daughter contacted Cyn at Choice Dementia Services and she came out (over a weekend!) to do an initial assessment with all of us, which was so beneficial.
She answered all our questions and came back with a care plan which met our family’s specific needs. It even included that the HCA who worked with us would love to walk, as my husband would sometimes say, “I’m going for a walk” and be gone at the drop of a hat.
We set up 2 days a week and I was surprised that along with the walks, my husband (and sometimes me) would sit and do a puzzle or a game of some kind. The kindness and fun that came from this was good for us all - a good laugh is the best medicine.
I was also surprised at how well my husband did with the encouragement from the HCA. She knew just how to get the best from him, and of course my husband liked that he could do so well.
Heaven sent!

I have peace of mind
I am so very grateful that we found such a professional, caring & genuine caregiver who truly cares about her clients and staff.
I am so happy that B is doing so well in your care.
You make B's day that much brighter!
You go above and beyond by including us and updating us on things we do not see.
You make it possible for me to have peace of mind.

My mental health improved
When my husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, it came as a huge surprise how tired I was emotionally and physically just taking care of my husband. There is a lot of cueing and trying to think one step ahead. Combined with the ever-changing moods he experienced, it took its toll.
Once the team from Choice Dementia Services started coming in, I was able to go back to my bridge club on a regular basis. I didn’t know how much I had missed the socializing and how important it was to my mental health.
One of Choice Dementia Services big differences is that one consistent HCA (Health Care Assistant) was assigned to my husband. He and I got to know this young woman and she us.
She understood what my husband needed and because she was here consistently.
Nothing beats one on one consistent care!!

We couldn’t cope without Choice
My mom has Alzheimer's. I first contacted Choice Dementia Services to provide 2 day a week care. We quickly realized it wasn’t enough and moved to five days a week of at home care for my mom. This allowed me the freedom to carry on working with less to worry about. The team was even able to stay overnight for 3-5 days at a time when I went out of town on business so that the job did not fall to my husband and children.
Mom was well cared for and I was happy with the personal touch that one to one care offered.
After about 5 months, we were all settled down as a family with having mom here and we decided to try providing care for my mom ourselves. This lasted about a month when we came to realize we couldn't cope … we aren’t specialist and it showed.
So we are now back with Choice Dementia Services and are so very happy! They provide top quality full time care for my mom.
We had no idea how difficult it would be to care for a family member with dementia. Thank goodness for Choice!
